An original abstract painting celebrating the character and spirit of the Australian kookaburra.

Created by contemporary Australian artist Shannon O’Neill, The Original explores the kookaburra through expressive brushwork, intuitive colour and layered texture. Earthy browns, soft creams and subtle blue highlights come together to create a distinctive interpretation of one of Australia’s most recognisable birds.

This original 50 × 50 cm acrylic painting was created to complement the first kookaburra sculpture in The Kookaburra Project, bringing the same subject to life through a contrasting artistic expression. Where the sculpture explores the kookaburra in three dimensions, the painting captures its character through abstract form, colour and movement.

The painting and sculpture can be appreciated as individual artworks or as complementary pieces within the project.
